SASKATOON, SK — On April 10, 2022, delegates to the 35th Constituency Session of the Manitoba-Saskatchewan Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church—gathered via Zoom—voted to elect Charles Ed II Aguilar as their new president, and to re-elect Christine Bergen as their executive secretary/treasurer.
Charles has served as school chaplain, pastor, and communication director in British Columbia. After six years as ADRA Uganda’s country director, he has recently served as supporter relations director for ADRA Canada. Charles and his wife Elizabeth have been married for 21 years and have three children: Jewel, Jaden and Onyx. He recognizes God’s call in his election as president for the Manitoba-Saskatchewan Conference and will begin his duties as of May 1, 2022.
Mark Johnson, president of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Canada, remarks, “Charles’s experience in different settings has prepared him to be an understanding and effective leader. His background in Adventist education, humanitarian work and pastoral ministry provides him with great vision as he steps into this new role. I am confident that Charles will provide strong and balanced leadership to the Manitoba-Saskatchewan Conference.”
Christine Bergen has served in her current role of executive secretary/treasurer for two years. Prior to that, she served as the secretary-treasurer of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Newfoundland and Labrador from 2010 to 2019. Christine and her husband Joe have been married for 33 years. They have two children, Mark and Teresa, as well as a son-in-law, Clinton Wahl. Christine has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Saskatchewan, and over 22 years of office experience with at least 16 of those in a supervisory role.
The Manitoba-Saskatchewan Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church comprises approximately 4,100 members in 36 churches. It operates schools, nursing homes and retirement centres, and a camp meeting site. Their mission is to develop a disciple-making culture to create healthy vibrant churches that actively connect the people in their communities to Jesus.
