My Hiding Place

For in the day of trouble He shall keep me safe in His dwelling;
He will hide me in the shelter of His tabernacle and set me high upon a rock.

Psalm 27:5 (NIV)

What is the definition of Hide/Hiding?  “being out of sight or not readily apparent”; “to conceal for shelter or protection”; ”to keep secret”

      I live out on an acreage with my husband and one of the most rewarding aspects of this life is to be in nature and the “guests” on the property. We daily see many bird species, lively squirrels and gentle deer stopping by. An exciting time of year is the spring when “our” geese return back to the pond. We have, every year, made ready an abode for the first returning pair. They arrive, the goose nests, the gander protects her, and not long after we are witness to the goslings coming into the world. The family unit is complete, staying close together while “pop” hovers and keeps them safe.

      I love to see “mom” finding room under her wings to keep her young ones warm, dry, safe and secure.

       It brings to mind how God hovers over all his children, shielding us and never leaving us.

       There are times we “hide away” from the bustle of life, closing in on us. We hide from things that overwhelm us, people who seem to be asking too much of us, or we don’t feel we can do things well enough. We “hide” from our feelings at times.

       When we are troubled, hurt, confused, scared, there can be some comfort given through those close to us, but nothing will ever completely ease our strife and give us peace other than resting in the outstretched arms of Jesus, our true hiding place.

      We should desire turning towards our ”giver of peace and protection.”

       I love the words of the hymn by William O. Cushing “Under His Wings”

                        Under His wings I am safely abiding,

                        Though the night deepens and tempests are wild,

                        Still I can trust Him, I know He will keep me,

                        He has redeemed me, and I am His child

May we never forget His great love for us.
